{"id":2210,"date":"2020-08-24T08:48:23","date_gmt":"2020-08-24T08:48:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sodecao.cm\/?p=2210"},"modified":"2020-08-24T08:48:56","modified_gmt":"2020-08-24T08:48:56","slug":"comment-conduire-une-cacaoyere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sodecao.cm\/en\/comment-conduire-une-cacaoyere\/","title":{"rendered":"HOW TO MANAGE A COCOA FARM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>For a young cocoa farm<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clear land as regularly as possible to allow young plants to grow properly.<\/li>\n<li>Replace missing plants up to the second year of planting; refrain from doing this from the third year onwards, as these young plants will be smothered by the larger ones.<\/li>\n<li>Gradually adjust the shade by pruning the trees.<\/li>\n<li>Protect against capsids with appropriate insecticide applications in mid-September and December.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>FOR A MATURE PLANTATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From the second year, the plantation starts producing (SODECAO hybrids).<\/p>\n<p>Clear at least twice (02) per  year, preferably in April and May to allow for good flowering, then in August and September to prepare for the pod harvest.<\/p>\n<p>Cut the gourmands regularly.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>1-  Carry out \"Sanitary Harvest\" to eliminate any sources of contamination between January and February by :<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Harvesting all the rotten, dried-up pods remaining on the branches or trunks, cutting off the pod tails (peduncles) without damaging the trunk, using machetes, pruning shears or pruning hooks.<\/p>\n<p>Picking up any pods or shells lying around.<\/p>\n<p>Removing any pods that show the slightest sign of rot throughout the season.<\/p>\n<p>Gather all the debris (rotten, dried-up pods) in a corner of the plantation, preferably in a hollow spot or a dug-up hole, and burn them.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>2.Carry out phytosanitary treatment<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>(Brown rot control)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>During the short rainy season<\/p>\n<p>(April-May-June)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Treat low pods up to breast height with a contact fungicide from the first rains and before the appearance of brown spots which indicate the disease; this every week.
