Seed traceability

Generally speaking, traceability is the ability to identify and trace the history, distribution, location and use of a product (cocoa seed, cocoa bean, etc.) in order to ensure the reliability of environmental sustainability claims.

As for the seed, it is a question of tracing its origin throughout the chain (pre-basic seed, basic seed, farmer seed). SODECAO has seed farms established from parents, thanks to research. Biclonal fields produce clearly identified hybrid seeds with known characteristics. These hybrid pods are then used as seed for the creation of nurseries throughout the production basins. These nurseries produce seedlings which are then distributed to growers. In this way, each cocoa plant given to a producer can be traced back to its origins.

As for the cocoa bean, the aim is to trace its origin along the value chain
